Literary Salon at Clifton’s

November 20, 2016 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm UTC+0

Free

Please join us for the launch of our literary salon series at Clifton’s in downtown Los Angeles!

“Time, time, time … see what’s become of me”

As fall turns to a hazy shade of winter, join us as we focus on writing about Los Angeles history (past, present and future) and how L.A. provokes change in our lives. We’ll feature authors Dana Johnson (IN THE NOT QUITE DARK: Stories, Counterpoint Press, 2016) and David Kukoff (LOS ANGELES IN THE 1970s, Rare Bird Lit, 2016) in a reading and Q&A. And writers can share their own work, completed and in progress, on the subject — also the theme of AFLW’s upcoming issue, launching Dec. 15 (deadline Dec. 1). Themed beverages and dining will be available. The salon is free.

Dana Johnson is the author of “Break Any Woman Down,” which won the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction and was a finalist for the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. Born and raised in and around Los Angeles, she is an associate professor of English at the University of Southern California. She is the author of ELSEWHERE, CALIFORNIA: A NOVEL and IN THE NOT QUITE DARK: STORIES.

Read an excerpt of IN THE NOT QUITE DARK here: http://aflwmag.com/2016/09/29/excerpt-in-the-not-quite-dark-by-dana-johnson.

David Kukoff is a screenwriter, author of the novel CHILDREN OF THE CANYON and editor of LOS ANGELES IN THE 1970s: Weird Scenes in the Goldmine, forthcoming from Rare Bird Lit.
